As a young man growing up in the good ole USA of course one of my passions was muscle cars.As I grew up in the late 70's I watched the country and automakers slowly pull out and deal with the restrictive emission controls that killed the big block.
But just as during the 60's the key to more speed was more cubic inches. In the 90's we found that the key to more speed was supercharging and so the craze began, the craze to put a blower on everything.
Steve Saleen a professional race car driver and car builder realized this and in 1992 started installing vortech blowers on mustangs. through the years the blower has pushed more boost but has gotten horsepower levels to a place never seen during the 60's
Today supercharging has led to some incredible cars, saleens, cobra's shelby's and the era of putting on a blower has really given us back that extra horsepower that we could never before dream of in such a restrictive environment
Supercharged factory production vehicles were slow out of the gate with only 10 factory supercharged saleens in 92 and 25 in 93 plus 4 factory supercharged sc's which ended up being the only year the all potent sc was produced with the 450hp supercharged motor. There were 9 sa-10's made with the vortech, this represented the extent of factory supercharging on the fox platform. Afterwards factory supercharged saleens started to catch on in the ordersheet.
After 1993 Factory supercharged Saleens were offered in the s281 model and the awesome s351which was discontinued in 1999 due to ever stricter emission requirements
